When you are planning a garden makeover you are bound to have lots of questions. This article aims to answer some of the more commonly asked landscaping questions.

A garden makeover is an investment. Not only will it enhance your lifestyle and your well-being, it can add value to your property too so be sure to ask as many questions as you need to.

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions that the Wilson Landscapes team answer on a weekly basis.

Will we have a guarantee for the work carried out ?2025-08-03T15:44:54+01:00

Yes, we provide a three-year warranty for all workmanship performed by Wilson Landscapes.

Do we need to sign a contract ?2025-08-03T15:42:48+01:00

Yes, a contact is required as a legal agreement. This will require a signature from both spouses i.e husband, wife, partners, boyfriend or girlfriend. The contract can either be sent over via email once a quotation is
approved or if easier the contract can be signed in the showroom for your convenience. There is nothing better than transparency and clear rules which have been agreed on and signed. In this way, everyone knows what to expect and what to do in the case of any misunderstanding.

What happens if I want to make alterations during the build ?2025-08-03T15:27:12+01:00

Yes, we are happy to make changes during the project as we realise our client’s vision and requirements may change as they see the garden developing. Any additions or alterations to the schedule or the project specification will be subject to review and if necessary additional payments (towards additional materials or labour costs).

What can I expect from the consultation visit ?2025-08-03T15:15:05+01:00

Our consultant will typically need between 30 minuets to one hour of your time depending on the size of the job to discuss your needs and requirements and then give their best advice on the landscaping of your garden. The main goal of the meeting will be to establish the most practical layout of the garden, type of materials, overall style and budget to ensure that the solutions they propose are the best value for money.

After the first consultation, you will receive a full written quotation sent in a email as a PDF. If you wish to view samples of any products listed in the quotation these can be sent out in the post or a second consultation can be booked to discuss and view the products that work best for you.

Are you insured?2025-08-03T15:10:56+01:00

Yes, we are fully covered with 5 million pounds worth of public liability.

Does the quote included all of the materials needed?2025-08-03T14:34:32+01:00

Each project can vary depending on the size of the job and what is being installed however on average we require a 10% booking fee, 40% deposit once on site unless stated other wise, 25% stage payment unless stated otherwise and 25% upon the day of completion. Payments are accepted by Bank Transfer.

We accept bank transfer, credit and debit card payments however credit and debit cards are charged at 1.69% and online card payments are charged at 2.5% while bank transfer is free. However, we don’t accept cheques.

Is it expensive to hire a landscape gardener?2025-08-03T12:04:28+01:00

Hiring a professional landscaper will enhance and add value to your property – so it’s an investment. The cost of course depends on the scope of the project and the choice of materials. Please don’t make cost the only consideration when hiring a landscape gardener.

Remember, a professional company like Wilson landscapes will be working in your garden for (possibly) some time. Make sure you feel comfortable with any contractor before making any decisions to commit.

Do I need a garden design?2025-08-03T14:07:30+01:00

All of the best projects start with a plan. Wilson landscapes will put your ideas into a digital 3D aspect so that you as the client knows exactly what is being proposed. The design also allows for efficient project management.

How long does it take to complete a garden makeover?2025-08-03T14:08:46+01:00

A garden makeover depends upon many things. The size and complexity of the project, access to the site, the good old British weather, availability of materials and more. Some landscaping projects need extensive ground works to improve drainage and ensure that permanent structures do not lift, buckle or twist….a bit like the foundations on a house, you never see them but you’d be in a muddle without them. Most residential projects are completed between 1-2 weeks however larger jobs can take up to 4-6 Weeks.

Can I have just part of my garden landscaped?2025-08-03T14:10:48+01:00

Absolutely, yes you can. If you want to enlarge the patio, create a wildlife pond or build an outdoor kitchen it’s perfectly possible to landscape a section of the garden. If you are planning on gradually redesigning the whole garden but completing the work in stages, We strongly recommend taking advantage of 3D digital planning. That way you can prioritise jobs and the finished product will “flow” much better as you want to always work your way out of the garden.

Will landscaping work upset my neighbours?2025-08-03T14:13:25+01:00

The Wilson landscapes team always do their utmost to cause the least possible disruption to the neighbourhood. We are careful where we park our vehicles and don’t use noisy machinery too early in the morning. However, major landscaping work nearly always involves a certain amount of noise and dust. One of the team will always go to meet both neighbours to make sure they are warned that there’ll be some temporary disturbance, they are usually quite amenable.

What are you working hours?2025-08-03T14:19:43+01:00

We work Monday – Friday 8:00am until 3:00pm, however sometimes we do work Saturday’s 8:00am until 3:00pm if a project needs additional finishing time to meet a deadline.

Will the landscapers need access to my home?2025-08-03T14:22:31+01:00

There is no reason whatsoever for our team to come into your house. All our landscaping team will need is access to an electricity supply and a water tap. When it comes to food, drinks etc, our team are very good at looking after themselves, however teas and coffees are always welcomed for the team. We even put a portaloo on site if there is enough room after storage of materials and space for excavated waste.

What happens with the rubbish?2025-08-03T14:26:55+01:00

The rubbish will go onto protection boards on your driveway and be disposed of by a grab lorry, however not all projects require a grab lorry or might not be accessible due to the surrounds. Not to worry as Wilson Landscapes carry a full waste carriers license so if require we can transport the waste on our trucks. it’s worth baring in mind that your full driveway will be required for the
duration of the job for waste & materials.

What are the payment terms & payment methods?2025-08-03T14:28:00+01:00

Each project can vary depending on the size of the job and what is being installed however on average we require a 10% booking fee, 40% deposit once on site unless stated other wise, 25% stage payment unless stated otherwise and 25% upon the day of completion.
