BBC’s DIY SOS host Nick Knowles started work in Bristol with his team for a new show being aired next year. BBC’s DIY SOS The Big Build began its project at the Southmead Adventure Playground, known locally as the Ranch, in Doncaster Road Bristol.
The playground was built by the surrounding community and has been loved and well-used by many generations of residents.
It was recently taken over by Southmead Development Trust, a resident-led charity working to improve health, wellbeing and employment in the area but the playground has fallen into disrepair, suffered from vandalism, and is was unfit for purpose – but the revamp took place on 19th of October 2021 by the DIY SOS team, supported by volunteers across the south-west and surrounding regions.
Wilson Landscapes volunteered their landscaping services to help re-build the forest school at Southmead Adventure Playground. It’s was a difficult challenge in all aspects from the show trying to source materials, bad weather & a lack of tradesmen on site but Wilson Landscapes accepted the challenge to create the forest school with a new pergola fitted with a sedum living roof, seating areas, gabion cages, retaining borders, sleeper steps, fire pit area, a new pond area and so much more!
It was a pleasure to work alongside some of the DIY SOS team and meet each and every one of them personally. The reward of seeing the local children’s faces being able to play in a safe environment & make memories with their family is what it’s all about! We can’t wait for our clients to see our hard work on TV in 2022.
